Electronic Brokerage Service (EBS)Legacy Action PlanSkills Competefor / Electronic Brokerage Service The electronic brokerage service, which has been named competefor, created to give business unique access to procurement opportunities has begun pilot testing in London and the South East region. This early pilot testing has received little or no publicity and a select number companies in the pilot regions have been approached to register on the site in order to test its readiness for a wider roll out. If early testing is successful all UK RDAs will have entered the pilot by the end of November 2007. Phase one of the EBS roll out will see potential suppliers registering on Competefor and completing a number of pre-qualification questions. Those companies who fail to meet the necessary criteria for supplying goods and services to government will be directed to business support through the Business Link network. Phase two, expected early 2008, of the project will see ODA and its tier one contractors advertising their tender opportunities on Competefor. The aim is that Competefor should reach as far down the supply chain as possible and we expect to see tier 2, 3, 4 etc contracts on the system.Visit http://www.seeda.co.uk/News_&_Events/Event_Reports/2008_Events/2012_Business_Network/index.asp
Legacy Action Plan At the end of July 2007, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport published the ‘Our Promise for 2012’ document aimed at informing the public how the UK will benefit from the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The document is broken down into five chapters. Chapter five has a specific reference to business, ‘We will demonstrate the UK is a creative, inclusive and welcoming place to live in, visit, and for business’. In order to galvanise all the delivery agents into ensuring that the programmes to deliver the five promises are taken forward DCMS are preparing a legacy action plan. The plan, due for publication at the beginning of 2008, will bring together all the activity aimed at ensuring a Games legacy into one published document. Skills BERR is working closely with partners to ensure that full advantage is taken of the opportunities provided by the Games to achieve our ambition of a UK workforce skilled to 'world class' levels. A Pre Volunteer Programme is being developed to improve the skills of volunteers helping at the Games, and the Employer Accord is working to establish partnerships between employers and employment and skills bodies. Many Sector Skills Councils are also working with employers in their sector on Games related programmes. These include the proposed establishment of a National Skills Academy for construction on the Olympic site; the development of the London Leisure Academy which will seek to train 100,000 new entrants, existing staff, and future leaders into the sport and active leisure industry every year; and a raft of measures to drive up skills in the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism sectors, from customer service to leadership and management skills.Business Opportunities
